FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

CHEMICAL PEELS

Chemical peels are a popular cosmetic procedure used to improve the appearance of the skin by applying a chemical solution that causes the skin to exfoliate and eventually peel off, revealing smoother, rejuvenated skin. Here are some frequently asked questions (FAQs) about chemical peels:

What is a chemical peel?

A chemical peel is a cosmetic procedure in which a chemical solution is applied to the skin to remove the top layer(s) of damaged or aged skin.

What are the benefits of a chemical peel?
Chemical peels can improve skin texture, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, treat acne and acne scars, reduce hyperpigmentation, and enhance skin brightness and radiance.

How does a chemical peel work?

The chemical solution used in a peel causes controlled damage to the skin, which stimulates the body's natural healing processes. This leads to the shedding of the old skin and the growth of new, healthier skin. Please keep in mind, that not everybody's skin will peel. Peeling is a side effect based on your skin's reaction to the ingredients. This does not mean that the peel was unsuccessful.

Are there different types of chemical peels?
Yes, chemical peels are categorized into superficial, medium, and deep peels. At The Derma Studio, we carry light-medium peels only.

Are chemical peels painful?
Most people experience a tingling or burning sensation during the peel, but this discomfort is usually temporary and can be managed with cold compresses or pain relievers if needed.

How long does a chemical peel procedure take?
The duration of a chemical peel procedure can vary depending on the type of peel being performed, but it typically takes 30 minutes.

Is there downtime after a chemical peel?
The downtime varies based on the depth of the peel. Superficial peels may result in a few days of redness and sensitivity. Please keep in mind, if you are a good candidate for a peel, you must stay away from excessive sunlight for 3-5 days post service. If you are unable to do that, please wear SPF and reapply every 2 hours.

How many sessions are needed to see results?
The number of sessions required varies based on the specific skin concern and the type of peel. Some people see noticeable improvement after just one session, while others may need multiple treatments for optimal results.

Are there any side effects or risks associated with chemical peels?
Common side effects include redness, peeling, and temporary sensitivity. There is also a risk of infection, scarring, or changes in skin pigmentation, especially with deeper peels.

Can chemical peels be used on all skin types?
Certain types of chemical peels are safer for individuals with lighter skin tones. People with darker skin may be at a higher risk of developing post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Please consult with us if you have any questions or concerns.

How long do the results of a chemical peel last?
The duration of results can vary, but many people experience improved skin texture and appearance for several months to a year or more. Maintenance peels may be recommended to prolong the benefits.

Can chemical peels be combined with other cosmetic procedures?
Yes, chemical peels can be combined with other treatments such as Botox, dermal fillers, or laser therapy for more comprehensive facial rejuvenation.
